Government

The City of Grosse Pointe is established as a home ruled government.  The power of the city government is vested in a council consisting of a mayor and six council members.  The mayor shall be elected at each regular city election for a term of two years.  The six members of the council shall be elected for terms of four years each.  These terms are staggered so that every two years three of the six council members are up for re-election. Eligible candidates for mayor and council must be registered voters in the city at least three years prior to the date of taking office and they shall receive no compensations for their services.

The Council of the City of Grosse Pointe is designated and shall act as the City Planning Commission with all the powers and authority granted to planning commissions by the Constitution, laws, and statutes of the State of Michigan.
