Mechanic

Position Overview:  This is a full-time position with the primary duty of maintaining and repairing the City’s refuse and dump trucks, heavy and small equipment, fleet vehicles, and other equipment.  Applicant would have multi-faceted, hands-on skills to handle a variety of assigned tasks in the municipal public works arena.  Employee may have to respond to emergencies after hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays in addition to varying seasonal requirements. The selected candidate will be expected to complete and obtain a valid State of Michigan CDL Class B with air brake endorsement within one year from start date.  A satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment is required.  Candidates with a mechanic license are preferred.

Seasonal Maintenance Worker
The City of Grosse Pointe is accepting applications for a Seasonal Maintenance Worker in the Public Services Department.

Potential candidates should be able to operate department related vehicles, light and heavy equipment.  Additionally, candidates should be able to assist with, and perform the duties of, departmental classifications as operational needs demand including landscape and forestry related duties, cleaning and maintaining City equipment and facilities, provide general labor and support for various maintenance projects, collect trash in City parks, marina, shopping districts, and other areas as assigned. Previous experience in park maintenance, public service, or related field is preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Michigan driver’s license.  Applicants will be required to pass an oral interview including a background check.

Salary Range:  The starting hourly rate is $12.00.

Seasonal Yard Waste Worker
The City of Grosse Pointe is accepting applications for a Seasonal Yard Waste Worker in the Public Services Department.


This job is a seasonal part-time hourly position from the first full week of April until the beginning of December. In this position, the job duties are to collect yardwaste, leaves, sticks and brush and place them into the refuse truck.  The position is for the four days per week on the days the yardwaste or leaf route is picked up, approximately. The starting time is 7:30 am working approximately 6 hours per day during yardwaste season and 8 hours starting in mid-October during leaf season.   Driver’s license not required. 

Salary Range:  The starting hourly rate is $12.00.

Parks and Recreation Seasonal Employment
The City of Grosse Pointe Parks and Recreation Department will be accepting applications for lifeguards and gate attendants. Candidates must have necessary certifications in life guarding, first aid and/or CPR pending on the position.  Previous experience in parks and recreation is preferred, or the equivalent experience.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be at least 16 years of age for the position of lifeguard
  • Must be at least 18 years of age for the position of gate attendant
