Neff Park Pool
The target date for opening the main pool is the beginning of July. As soon as the pool closing order was lifted, the City scheduled Neff Pool for the required cleaning and setup. This contracted work is set for the week of June 15. Once cleaned, the pool will require two weeks for chemical balancing and heating. The facility also needs to pass regulatory inspection to open. Lifeguards have already been contacted to confirm their availability and will need in-pool training, testing and training in COVID-19 procedures and precautions.
After opening, the City will have to adhere to capacity restrictions set in place by the Governor and Wayne County and adhere to COVID-19 guidance issued by the CDC and other health agencies. As directed by the State, gatherings in a public space are limited to no more than 100 people. In order to accomplish this, the City will be asking residents to sign up to swim for specific time periods using the recreation registration page on the City site. Details regarding this process will be made available in the near future. For the safety of staff and residents, the City will be taking the necessary precautions to limit the number of commonly touched surfaces and maintain social distancing among the staff and users. These measures will include the opening of the main pool only without the use of drinking fountains, bathhouse locker rooms, diving boards, or pool chairs. Residents will be asked to enter and exit the pool area by use of two separate gates surrounding the pool and to arrive ready to swim with the locker rooms not being available for changing purposes. Residents will also be asked to bring with them their own chairs, goggles, kick boards, and etc. Outdoor showers on the pool deck will be made available.
